Great design can make or break your business.

With the rise of internet, creating your own startup has become easier than ever. And what does this mean?It means more competition.

If 10 years ago, you could build a profitable company with an ugly website and bad UX, this is no longer true.Your product must solve a problem. But everyone is solving problems these days. You need to provide a better experience than everyone else.Design can be your competitive advantage.

“As far as the customer is concerned, the interface is the product.” — Jef Raskin

Design for Founders aims to bring design closer to business owners. It breaks down branding, graphic design, UX, and conversion optimisation into easy to understand concepts so that busy entrepreneurs are able to learn one bit at a time and apply it right away.If you are saying “yup, that’s me!”, then you’re in the right place!

About me

Hi. I’m Stew Philips and I run the Skewed Icons website with the help of a small team. I wrote most of the articles on the site as well as the book.

I’ve been working as a designer in agencies and with startups for over 6 years. Then I quit my job in 2014. Since then, I enjoy the freedom of running my own business.

Although Design for Founders is my favourite, I run a few other websites as well. One of them was ThemeBro, the smart WordPress theme search engine. It’s now been shut down.

The best part of this “job” is that I get to learn new marketing strategies and test every detail of my sites. I then share what I’ve learned here. My articles and projects have been featured in Tuts+, Despreneur, DesignModo, ProductHunt, and others.
